Because of Anya
Because of Anya | Margaret Peterson Haddix
1 post | 5 read | 1 to read
Ten-year-old girls don't wear wigs. So why is Anya wearing one? That's what Keely wants to know. But when Anya's wig falls off in front of the whole class, Keely realizes what she really wants is to help Anya, even though she's not sure how--and even though it means she'll have to do something she's afraid of: stand up to her friends. As for Anya, she just wants her hair to grow back, but no one can tell her whether it ever will. How can she learn to accept her disease when she can't even look in the mirror?

Pickpick

Because of Anya by, Margaret Peterson Haddix, is a RF novel that would be ideal for an IR. In the book, Anya has an illness that makea her hair fall out. As a young girl going through school, it is hard enough to fit in. Her wig even falls off in the middle of class. Will she makes friends? Will she stand up to the class and her peers? Will she learn to love herself? This a great book for kids to read so they can learn empathy and kindness.

emilybanne This book is a quick yet nessacary read that will most likely get you in your feels. https://www.journalbuddies.com/journal_prompts__journal_topics/be-kind-to-humank... On this website there are many writing prompts on subjects about being kind. The kids can do some great self reflecting after they read this book and pick a few prompts to write about. A UDL guideline that fits is 9.3 which is develop self assessment and reflection. 6y
emilybanne They will be reflecting while writing about the different prompts provided. An ESOL Strategy is 3 which is to encourage self talk. We want to help the students create pictures and connections in their mind. We can help guide them to self reflect and dig deeper into the book. #UCFLAE3414SUB18 6y
DrSpalding I couldn‘t agree more that this book will help students empathize and better understand other children dealing with illness. 6y
