Finders keepers, right? When Ruben picks up someones lost money, he finds out how hard it can be to do the right thing. Ruben feels like he is the only kid without a bike. His friend Sergio reminds him that his birthday is coming, but Ruben knows that the kinds of birthday gifts he and Sergio receive are not the same. After all, when Rubens mom sends him to Sonnys corner store for groceries, sometimes she doesnt have enough money for everything on the list. So when Ruben sees a dollar bill fall out of someones purse, he picks it up and puts it in his pocket. But when he gets home, he discovers its not one dollar or even five or tenits a hundred-dollar bill, more than enough for a new bike just like Sergios! But what about the crossed-off groceries? Then Ruben finds $100 after a lady drops it. He is faced with a dilemma. He must make a difficult decision, keep the money or return it. This book discusses so many topics, like the value of money, poverty, and right or wrong. #ucflae3414sp20

One day, he comes across someone‘s lost money and has to make a very tough decision of what he should do with it. This Charlotte Zolotow Award winning book is a great RF that teaches young children to make the right decisions. This would make a great RA for young elementary students! #UCFLAE3414F19

abbie-cadabbie The UDL strategy I‘d use would promote expectations and beliefs that optimize motivation (9.1) I would ask the students to think about what they think the boy will do and what decisions they think he will make while reading. For ESOL, I would reinforce the key ideas I present again and again (15) so my students may catch on to what I am saying due to the amount of times I‘m repeating myself and bringing it up. 5y
DrSpalding I just added this award winner to my stack. I have not seen this and feel it would make for an excellent lesson encompassing important themes students must know. Excellent alignment. 5y

Great story. Zara was fixated on the characters noses and how she didn‘t like the way they were drawn. Ha!

I'm a fan of this picture book author/illustrator pairing. I loved "Those Shoes" and I love this one too. Both present realistic, challenging situations from the point of view of a child who doesn't have as much money as a friend. Both feature acts of integrity and kindness without being didactic.

The colorful illustrations by Jones are full of emotion, represent a diverse community, and feature people of color.
