When you're the only human caught in a paranormal war, high school can get a little tricky in this high-stakes sequel to Velvet. With Adrian's brother trapped in hell, the War Council has made Stony Creek their base-of-operations, but Caitlin has a bad feeling they're more interested in her than in finding Lucian. Trapped in a sea of conspiracies and lies, Caitlin and Adrian struggle to hide their real relationship. If their true feelings were discovered, every trace of Adrian would be wiped from Caitlin's memories, leaving her alone and completely without allies against the Council or Adrian's father, while Adrian would be forced into a 100-year coma-long enough for Caitlin to grow old and die before he was allowed to awaken once more. Constantly looking over her shoulder, Caitlin still makes headway with her fashion designs, trying to get on with life amid a crazy paranormal manhunt. Meanwhile, Adrian asks dangerous questions about the Council's real interest in Caitlin, and why her protection detail was sabotaged. But when the truth finally comes to light, the consequences are unimaginable. And the question still haunts them both: even if they survive, how will they deal with the fact that Caitlin is mortal, and Adrian is not?

There is something about #AmericanKids -as in US American teenagers- that my European mind has problems wrapping itself around. In films as much as with contemporary YA (vampire/romance) novels set in the US. The culture strikes me as odd. I can't even say which part exactly, I just keep tutting and shaking my head and wondering why they act like that. US teenagers in novels seem to be walking stereotypes.

@Cinfhen

AmandaL That is a really interesting observation. I think it has something to do with the hyper-consumer culture and barrage of media and advertising imagery we're exposed to from birth. It's influence supersedes education, family, region. I have teenage children, and it seems like even the counter-culture has been commodified and packaged for them. 7y
Billypar So much also gets dumbed down and oversimplified, especially in Hollywood portrayals, but probably in certain books too. Romantic drama is a big thing with this age group but it's definitely not the only interesting thing going on with American teens. 7y
julesG @AmandaL @Billypar Thanks for your replies. I think a lot of factors influence these stereotypical depictions, oversimplification and consumer culture sound like good reasons. But I am sure, where I to read books about German teenagers (or watch films), there would also be stereotypical behaviour. 7y
Cinfhen Love this thread! I think the horrible US stereotypes is partially why I DISLIKE YA 7y

Mehso-so

Erm, yes. Interesting sequel. The story and the vampire background/world building are interesting. The writing was ...meh!
It was convoluted with teenage drama, detailed in places where it was not necessary (dress making, prom, internship, dream scenes), and rushed where there was action.

I'm giving it 2.5 stars.

I'm showing you my current view, as I'm sitting on my balcony enjoying the sunshine.

DivineDiana Gorgeous view! 8y

Not even 10% in. And it's not the first "bump".

Why do authors thank their copy-editors when this is the final result?

Just had to put the grumpy pug in this picture.

Pickpick

Velvet was one of my favorite reads of 2015 and ever since, I've been yearning for the second book, Cashmere. Luckily Netgalley had this one as a Read Now option and I jumped at the chance to read this baby. Let me tell ya, if you, like me loved Velvet then you'll be blown away by Cashmere!
