I won't spoil the plot here; with every chapter, each character's motivations are further unveiled, secrets are disclosed, and the lines between love and obsession are blurred. That thread of “I want you“ runs steadily through the whole book, and the tension is palpable.....

I have seen so many people hype up this book and I can wait to see if it lives up to it. #33of2023

📚📚📚 Read this in one day. Quick romance read with older-brother love interest, conniving parent/sibling. Uses flashbacks, a scare kink for sex scenes, & has some pranks that are dangerous. Conflict can be figured out before the end. HEA ending. I liked it enough to finish series (6 total).
4.5⭐
So I just finished reading Corrupt by Penelope Douglas, the first book of the Devil's Night series. It's a dark romance. The thrill of being chased, the seductiveness of danger, Douglas was able to convey them on page effectively & I have to say she has clearly outdone herself this time. This book was not at all what I was expecting but not everyone can digest this book & for that she is very brave as well as an extremely talented author.
Wow… where do I begin?!?! This book was not what I was expecting when I grab it for free from Amazon… it was so much better! I quickly fell in (and out) of love with the main characters (many times!!). Plus this book also gave me a new book crush…or two…or three… okay it was four!! I have a crush on all four of the main guys in this book and you will too, so hurry up and read this book!!!
WARNING - it is a dark romance!!

Book 1 in a series. This book was amazing. A lot of suspense and plenty of twist and turns with the added bonus of being deliciously steamy. Penelope Douglas is now one of my new favorite authors.
Deliciously dark. If you aren‘t familiar with Penelope‘s work then just be warned, most of her novels toe the line of what makes people comfortable and Corrupt isn‘t any different. It‘s a bully romance, it‘s dark, twisted, uncomfortable and I l loved it. It‘s in the same universe as another one of my fav books of hers, Punk 57... including Misha‘s cousin, Will. (3 of the characters, Will, Michael, and Kai, even make a brief appearance in Punk 57).
My review of this load of crap just went live this morning: https://theludicreader.com/2021/03/17/corrupt-penelope-douglas/
So interesting to read Velocity immediately after.
I saw a book tuber talk about this book & it hit some of my reading kinks so I bought it. The fact that I couldn‘t get it from Indigo or Amazon should have been my first clue. I ordered it from Book Depository. It‘s CRAP. Misogynistic, ridiculous, stupid, CRAP populated by unrealistic characters behaving in ridiculous ways. I‘ve read fanfic a billion times better than this drivel. I want my $30 and time back. Yes, I read the whole thing. To mock.
It was a thrilling experience as the mystery unfolds...Rika and Michael!!! Will be starting book 2 soon! Penelope Douglas has amazing writing skills.

Book 1 in Devil's Night series. Must say I'm intrigued.... Need to keep reading
Day 9 - #Corrupt #QuotsyDec19
I fought corruption in my home town and got honest people on the council to run my borough. I was on council for 12 years and became the first woman President of the Borough of Perkasie.
I love Penelope Douglas but this was not to my personal taste. Some problematic issues with consent, and a bit too dark for me. Maybe just not my kind of kink? 🤷🏽♀️ #romantsy
I liked the book at the end but i was kind of frustrated reading it because it does a lot of then-and-now switch ups and changes of character perspective. I wish the author had let us know why everyone was so upset with Rika earlier but maybe I‘m just impatient. Another thing that i wasn‘t a super fan of was all the rapey scenes and how Michael was okay with them and rika just moved past it. That‘s just me though.
"I bowed my head, closing my eyes and trying to calm down. I was losing. When she was around, she made everything small, and all I could see was her."
??
Have you read Corrupt by Penelope Douglas yet? If so who is your favorite of The Four Horsemen? I seriously can't choose between Michael and Kai!
??
Quick read, exciting and hot 🌡🔥 Characters are layered and plot is fast paced.
"When you want to make an impression and you think you‘ve gone far enough, go a little further. Always leave them wondering if you‘re just a little bit crazy, and people will never fuck with you again."
Hey y'all! While I'm still figuring out my footing around here, I will state that I think I'm gonna like it here!
Rika and Michael were excellent characters. The supporting cast was just as complex, and while this was Rika and Michaels story, the rest of the cast played a huge part and you couldn't help wanting more of them. The story line was dark, twisty, unique and crazy addicting. It was also ridiculously erotic.
