Self-Made Man | Poppy Z. Brite

The alternative title to Are You Loathsome Tonight, I had to get this version, as a trans man reading a trans man (not actually the story's theme but nonetheless). A variety of stories, some gorey, horror erotica and some just horror, or haunted queerness, etc. Definitely makes me want to read Drawing Blood. I kind of like it more that it isn't a cohesive, on theme collection. And Caitlin Kiernan's afterword kind of completes it perfectly for me.

Just finished this and loved it. The last 3 stories were my least favorite. This book is a good diversity of unapologetic literature that is ideal for any black hearted goth.

If you have never read Poppy Z. Brite, you are missing out. I just finished the story "Self Made Man" and it was brilliant.

If you are curious what to expect, imagine the nihilism of Chuck Palahniuk meets the poetic brutality of Clive Barker and the sexual explicitness of Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty series. Reading this book is like having ice water dumped down my back.

Holy crap this book is twisted. Just read "Saved" and "King of the Cats." Wtf?!?!? Not for those who are easily offended.

TrishB Most of the authors work is definitely not for the easily offended! 5y
BookwormOfTheDamned Trish, I have now fallen in love with Brite. 5y
