All the Shah's Men
All the Shah's Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror | Stephen Kinzer
10 posts | 12 read | 10 to read
This is the first full-length account of the CIA's coup d'etat in Iran in 1953—a covert operation whose consequences are still with us today. Written by a noted New York Times journalist, this book is based on documents about the coup (including some lengthy internal CIA reports) that have now been declassified. Stephen Kinzer's compelling narrative is at once a vital piece of history, a cautionary tale, and a real-life espionage thriller.

Most of Teheran was asleep when an odd caravan set out through the darkness shortly before midnight on August 15, 1953.

The bouncing timeline made the history a bit hard to follow. The American and especially British underhanded dealings were frustrating to read about and sure to cause problems well into the future.

Pickpick

I have owned this book for 13 years and finally read it this past week. A Grishamesque narrative to a real life story! I highly recommend as it's interesting and a quick reading page turner! #17booksin2017

"It is not far-fetched to draw a line from Operation Ajax through the Shah's repressive regime and the Islamic Revolution to the fireballs that engulfed the World Trade Center in New York." -Stephen Kinzer. #politicsandbooks
