A Cold Death in Amsterdam
A Cold Death in Amsterdam | Anja de Jager
8 posts | 5 read | 7 to read
Set in Amsterdam, the novel introduces Lotte Meerman, a Cold Case detective still recovering from the emotional devastation of her previous investigation. A tip-off leads Lotte to an unresolved ten-year-old murder case in which her father was the lead detective. When she discovers irregularities surrounding the original investigation that make him a suspect, she decides to cover for him. She doesn't tell her boss about the family connection and jeopardises her career by hiding evidence. Now she has to find the real murderer before her acts are discovered, otherwise her father will go to jail and she will lose her job, the one thing in life she still takes pride in . . .

Mehso-so

I liked the idea of this series and protagonist, but it didn't quite click with me. It could be first-in-series syndrome, or it could just have been less good than other books I've read recently. So I wouldn't discourage you from reading this if it interested you.

Pickpick

Sneaking in a final book for February, and I really enjoyed this. Lotte Meerman investigates cold cases for Amsterdam CID. More than the plot itself, it‘s Lotte‘s internal monologue that makes this feel very real (she‘s one serious mess, with far too many secrets). Some of the other characters feel 2-dimensional in comparison- first novel or just Lotte‘s skewed viewpoint? Not sure. But I‘ll definitely look out for the next in the series.

Cinfhen Woohoo !!! Great job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻I don‘t think I‘ve read many books with Amsterdam as the setting. That‘s cool 6y

Started a new audiobook yesterday and so far so good. Lotte, traumatised by her last case (we don‘t yet know what happened), is investigating cold cases. Her current case finds her working with the financial investigations team (including a slightly stereotypical old school bully) and suggests her father is implicated in the failure of the original case. It feels quite Scandi-noir - cold & bleak.

And lots of rocks at low-tide for #litsywalkers

Pickpick

This was a random pick up from the library that I started reading right away, it's a standard crime procedural with some interesting bit of side story. The setting of Amsterdam is great and the cold weather is interesting to me in the middle of a Sydney summer. Looking forward to the second book #readingaroundtheworld

MyNamesParadise That book isn't available in the US 😭😭 8y
