3.5/5⭐ The sarcastic, irreverent humor is great. I liked the characters and the fact that friendship takes front and center over romance. The author added worldbuilding details at the right pace and intrigued me for the sequel. There was a pattern I didn't care for of women becoming emotionally fragile very quickly in conversations where Sam could conveniently provide comfort. Overall, though, this book is a fun darker urban fantasy.

Very dark humour, and just a little too fast-paced in my opinion: Getting to the conclusion felt like we skipped over all consequences for how we got there.

I loved this book, and I have become VERY picky about a YA. Although this might be more “new adult” since the characters live on their own, work, and *gasp* drink and have sex. Teenagers would NEVER do that! 😂 Anyway, plenty of snark all around, and a song title for every chapter, so you have a theme song playing in your head as you read! I can‘t wait to read the next one!

✅ supernatural species living among us doing mundane things like working at a fast food restaurant
✅ a Buffy style villain up to no good
✅ secrets revelations and general hilarity
Very quick enjoyable read, I would call magical realism, in a lighthearted way

#AllHallowsRead #recommendsday!! I love this series so much. How about we throw in as many supernatural characters as possible? With a celebrity cameo? And make it legit scary at times? While laughing your ass off? And it's blurbed by the man himself, Sherman Alexie? Honestly, I don't know why I'm not rereading this right now.
