Trauma is Really Strange
Trauma is Really Strange | Steve Haines
3 posts | 5 read | 7 to read
What is trauma? How does it change the way our brains work? And how can we overcome it? When something traumatic happens to us, we dissociate and our bodies shut down their normal processes. This unique comic explains the strange nature of trauma and how it confuses the brain and affects the body. With wonderful artwork, cat and mouse metaphors, essential scientific facts, and a healthy dose of wit, the narrator reveals how trauma resolution involves changing the body's physiology and describes techniques that can achieve this, including Trauma Releasing Exercises that allow the body to shake away tension, safely releasing deep muscular patterns of stress and trauma.

Although I was hoping to have something I would be able to use with my adult students, the language/explanations were not quite in line with the population. Even so, this is a very interesting way to discuss trauma and the effects on our bodies and mind. #litsyreadingchallenge2017 #indiepublisher

A quick and easy to follow primer on trauma and its effect on the brain - as well as some coping strategies. None of this was new to me - but I liked how it was laid out and and explained. I think I'm going to try and incorporate some of this into the training curriculum for our new volunteers at my place of work.

BookishFeminist This looks like a good read. As someone with chronic PTSD I really appreciate resources like this. 😊 8y
Gissy I will read it. With PTSD is important to have different supportive sources like a professional person, family, friends. Learn to identify the triggers with meds, strategies and techniques to manage the symptoms. I'm very interested in the connection between brain/mind and body with what the person experienced, how person cope with it. See the person in a holistic perspective. Hope you are doing/managing well. My best wishes for you! 😍👍 8y

BraveNewBooks Important topic and I like the way the information is presented. But for the love of God, why is TSUNAMI misspelled?! 8y
Jenshootsweddings Definitely sounds like a good resource. I find PTSD-specific manuals to be either super cheeseball or super technical. 8y
RanaElizabeth @BraveNewBooks Oddly, that is exactly how I pronounce it. I know the correct way but my brain farts every single time and out comes tusnami. 8y
