Beware!
Beware!: (Richard Laymon Horror Classic) | Richard Laymon
2 posts | 6 read | 1 to read
'If you've missed Laymon, you've missed a treat' Stephen King The supermarket shouldn't have been shut - it wasn't normal for Elsie to quit early. But then it wasn't normal for a meat cleaver to fly through the air by itself. Or for a guard dog locked in overnight to end up as hamburger meat. Or for Elsie herself to feature on the butcher's slab, neatly wrapped and jointed... There's weird things happening in the town of Oasis and certain folks - like hotshot local reporter Lacey Allen - had better... BEWARE!

Laymon writes crazy books and there is always one or more people who are obsessed with sex. This book has a lot of sex, both consensual and not. There is also a lot of violence. The main villain is an awful person with no redeeming qualities who kills and rapes indiscriminately. The story is fast paced involving a cult with a vast reach, whose rituals give the cult members amazing powers. It's best to just enjoy the wild ride.

Reggie Yes! There was one where a guy rescues his sister in law and mother in law but keeps them cages and uses them for sex at the end of the book and I just thought what??!!!!! Sooo weird. 5y

Nope nope nope. This book is not for me. I‘ve found that I don‘t have a lot of patience with a certain act being used as a way to further another character‘s action and even less so when it‘s just there because it‘s shocking and it can be. The story is somewhat interesting but it has already let me down in the first 40 pages. I have so many other books to read so I‘m DNFing this one. #MarchUnshelfing @Clwojick
