Very well-written and mostly engaging but the details! The details! Could have been cut by at least a third! I understand this book was published the same year Trevanian died, so maybe that's why the nostalgia seems relentless.

Not feeling the greatest, skies are cloudy and it's raining so this morning begins with oatmeal and starting to read this one. 🤕☔️📖

The neighbors and experiences could have been Any City, USA. I grew up in Chicago and could relate to the local store, the alleys, the harsh walks to school and amazing neighbors. The timeframe was different since he was a child of the Depression. Yet, there was a lot to relate to as a youth.
