pickWar is indeed a hard and heavy thing in this novel narrated by a soldier returned from Iraq and Afghanistan about what drove him to enlist, his experiences over there, and the psychological toll he‘s had to endure since coming back. Ending the year with a tough read. It‘s been on my bedside table with a bookmark stalled in it on page 18 for 2 years plus. It‘s time to buckle down and find out why it made the National Reading Group Month Great Group Reads list in 2016.
What an amazing book. I've heard Matthew speak a couple of times and I was really excited to read this book. It wasn't an easy read but it was so worth it. Matthew describes what it's like coming back from war in a way that we can all understand and appreciate. I also love that he's from Wisconsin and he appears as a character in his own novel.
