Feeling like tossing in the towel on the #readingeurope2021 challenge I‘m hosting. Nobody seems to be posting about it. Just it‘s true that when I host something it‘s basically a dud and nobody cares. Might as well just call it off.

This is such a complex book, but it portrays the inner tension Edith Wharton experienced between her American side and her European side with a vividness that is sometimes painful to witness.
“She had conformed to the angular conditions of New England life, and she had had the tact and pluck to carry it off as if she liked them.“
“If we have ever had any virtue amongst us, we had better keep hold of it now.“
“Nothing exceeds the licence occasionally taken by the imaginations of very rigid people.“
“'And yet we are always repenting,' Gertrude said. 'That is what I mean by our being dreary.'“

I‘m so excited for this! European connections matter more in the uk now than ever and I‘m so so excited to learn more about more other countries in Europe. I‘ve done a count and reckon that so far I‘ve read books from 20 countries in Europe (most of the easy ones to tick off from British bookshops‘ selections) so I‘m going to try and focus on the ones I‘ve never read from before to start 💙💛💙💛💙
Signed up! This should help me with #mountTBR and overlap some of my other challenges and help me with meeting my reading goals for 2020. #readingeurope2020
Short and amusing; although I admit I was reading the introduction afterward to really “get” it...
Renee is doing an absolutely legendary European tour with her daughter and husband! Make sure to follow her on IG (@twocougs) and Facebook to see her beautiful journey!
Sam mentioned that I should have you all check out my instagram/Facebook to see updates on my trip. I've been in Europe since 6/20 and leave 7/20. It's been simply one of the loveliest things I've ever done. Both my daughter and husband have joined me on parts. I miss my son though. Hope you all are well. @LitsyGoesPostalOG
A very apt description of modem cities: "It seemed to her now that she was at an enormous fair - that the entertainment and the disagreements were very much the same. ... The show was curious, but it was probable, from moment to moment, that one would be jostled."
