Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind
Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind: A Novel | Ann B. Ross
12 posts | 20 read | 12 to read
Miss Julia, a recently bereaved and newly wealthy widow, is only slightly bemused when one Hazel Marie Puckett appears at her door with a youngster in tow and unceremoniously announces that the child is the bastard son of Miss Julia's late husband. Suddenly, this longtime church member and pillar of her small Southern community finds herself in the center of an unseemly scandal-and the guardian of a wan nine-year-old whose mere presence turns her life upside down. With razor-sharp wit and perfect "Steel Magnolia" poise, Miss Julia speaks her mind indeed-about a robbery, a kidnapping, and the other disgraceful events precipitated by her husband's death. Fast-paced and charming, with a sure sense of comic drama, a cast of crazy characters, and a strong Southern cadence, Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind will delight readers from first page to last.

Miss Julia may speak her mind, but my goodness, she is a fool. Finding out her husband has fathered an illegitimate child she proceeds to act in ridiculous ways. I found Miss Julia to be naive. I did enjoy the conclusion though. I‘m
All in favour of a situation which brings women together rather than pull them apart.

A change up from my normal oatmeal breakfast. These wasabi and soy sauce almonds are amazing! Don‘t tell my kids I‘m having a cookie with breakfast. I made Mexican Hot Chocolate cookie yesterday and they are so yummy. Spicy but not too much that the kids can‘t eat them. #breakfastandabook

MaleficentBookDragon Ohhh. They spund good. Will you share the recipe? 6y
Tamra That looks like a perfect breakfast! 6y

MommyOfTwo @MaleficentBookDragon @Tamra Here you go. The only thing I did differently was cut the chili powder in half. I knew it would be too much spice for everyone else in my family. https://www.cookingchanneltv.com/recipes/spicy-mexican-hot-chocolate-cookies-196... 6y
Tamra @MommyOfTwo thank you! 6y

Not my favorite cozy... I found myself unable to connect with any of the characters and many of them annoyed me with their antics.

I was reading in the car before work. It's rainy, chilly, and gross. Perfect for #CozyMysteryMonday

tdrosebud I do the same thing! 6y
vkois88 @tdrosebud it honestly helps me calm down and mentally prepare for the $#!t show I'm inevitably walking into lol... plus it's the only time I'm completely alone all day. 6y

Miss Julia thought she had a good marriage...right up until her husband dropped dead and his mistress drops his son in Miss Julia‘s lap! Everyone is pressuring Miss Julia for a piece of the very large pie that her husband left her but all Miss Julia wants is a chance to live her life without everyone‘s interference. This was a fun, wild ride. Kidnappings, ransoms, and gossips galore.

Bailedbailed

I know people love this series but I bailed... I just couldn't get into it, it just seemed so antiquated & not what I was looking for. Are there any books that people love that you just don't?

Prairiegirl_reading Catcher in the rye. 😕 8y
rubyslippersreads The Outlander series. I read the first one and part of the second, but just couldn't go on. 😕 8y

Day #10 #readandeat #marchintoreading It's very cold outside and we're under a snow squall watch, so we decided to stay in and order pizza and salad. The BF is watching basketball and I'm catching up with #Litsy!

Ruri_kaichou Stay safe and cozy! 8y
Tanner @Ruri_kaichou I intend to. At least we have heat and power here - I'm hoping all of the Littens still without power get it back soon! 8y
RealLifeReading That sounds like a great plan! Stay warm! 8y

Trying to read more light genre fiction in the new year instead of being so literary all the time. 😋
This one has a lot of local flavor and comes highly recommended from Mama. And you know how Southern Mamas are with recommendations..
