Memetic | James Tynion IV
7 posts | 10 read | 8 to read
Whats to Love: Memetic is truly an event comic, and a wholly unique take on the disaster genre. Much like his work on The Woods, writer James Tynion IVwith the help of fantastic newcomer Eryk Donovan (The House in the Wall)brings horror to a whole new generation of fans of J-horror films like Uzumaki and The Ring. Plus, Memetic was nominated for the GLAAD Award for Outstanding Comic! What It Is: A meme is an idea that starts with an individual, and then virally spreads to multiple persons and potentially entire societies. Richard Dawkins suggests a memes success comes from its effectiveness to the host, but history shows that destructive memes can spread just as rapidly through society. Memetic shows the progression of a weaponized meme that leads to the utter annihilation of the human race within 72 hours. The root of this apocalypse is a single image on the internet, a "meme" in the popular sense. A meme that changes everything. Collects the complete three-issue miniseries.

My insides feel all twisted up. Bleak. Bleeeeeaaaaak. Page after page, things kept getting weirder and more hopeless. Whew. I need a hug now?

09/150 DON'T LOOK AT THIS PICTURE!! NO!! Its too late, you've seen the meme, it will transform you, make you one of us, make you a screamer!! Its a dystopian story of a killer meme that transforms the world. So creepy, yet the scary part is it's totally believable. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Interesting premise, and the seeming protagonist is atypical, which I really liked. So, I was totally with this story - until it hit the midpoint and it just got inexplicably weird, and not the kind of weird I want to deal with. Plus that super bizarre ending that built up to a cliffhanger that was so obvious. Ugh. I will not be continuing with this series.

joelevard I don't think there is a continuation. I agree, it really took a turn, didn't it? 8y

A fun read about a destructive meme (that cute picture of the sloth no one can stop staring at) that spreads across the planet. Could this happen in the future??
