The Bride Price
The Bride Price | Buchi Emecheta, Marie Linton Umeh
2 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
First published in 1976, this great literary classic follows a young Nigerian woman who rejects the patriarchal traditions of her culture to find love and happiness in the western world. With pure honesty and subtle protest, Buchi Emecheta chronicles the unfair pressure and ultimate demise that women often suffer in Nigerian lore.

#feistyfeb #tbr @RealLifeReading This is always a crap shoot because who knows what will fall to hand at the library or bookshop but here's where I am now. I actually just got through Inter Library Loan a few titles by Emecheta who died recently so I may read this and/or one or two of the others.

I'm sorry to learn of the passing of Nigerian writer, Buchi Emecheta (1944-2017), author of more than 20 books. Chinua Achebe was the first African male writer I ever read, Buchi Emecheta was the first African woman writer I ever read.#nigerianwriters #restinpeaceandliterarypower #thebrideprice #buchiemecheta
