Ember and Ash
Ember and Ash | Pamela Freeman
3 posts | 2 read | 1 reading
The old ones will have their revenge. Two peoples have been fighting over the same land for a thousand years. Invaders crushed the original inhabitants, and ancient powers have reluctantly given way to newer magics. But Ember was to change all this with a wedding to bind these warring people together - until her future goes up in flames. Ember's husband-to-be is murdered by a vengeful elemental god, who sees peace as a breach of faith. Set on retribution, she enlists the help of Ash, son of a seer. Together they will pit themselves against elementals of fire and ice in a last attempt to end the conflicts that have scarred their past. They must look to the present, as old furies are waking to violence and are eager to reclaim their people.

I decided not to have tea in the bookstore‘s cafe, like I originally planned, but I brewed some up as soon as I got home. This little pot took me to 60% with EMBER AND ASH. While I‘m no longer sure if I‘ll finish it today, I should be able to polish off the last little bit tomorrow. #deweyapril #readathon

Time for fantasy & chicory tea. I loved Pamela Freeman‘s Castings Trilogy and I think I‘m gonna feel the same about this standalone sequel. It‘s full of nuanced characters who move through a meaty world and deal with magical problems in practical ways. I won‘t be able to finish it tonight, but I‘m excited to really wallow in the back half during the Readathon tomorrow.

Well, TBR Zero didn‘t last long. First, Pamela Freeman‘s EMBER & ASH made it into a $0.99 sale, then I stopped into my old favourite bookstore‘s new location on my way home from the country and found two more things from my wishlist! I‘ve searched for PHOENIX for years and years and years, and I‘m glad I‘ll be able to see how Sara Douglass‘s first trilogy ends.
