Where Monsters Lie | 
pickFinished this on the train! Great setting of a tiny village where the villagers perform a yearly ritual to appease a monster, who supposedly lives in the loch. MC Effie's mum disappears soon after one ritual and the rest of the book looks at her trying to find out what happened. There's a creeping sense of dread - especially over the second half - but it's an ultimately warm-hearted and hopeful story of family and friendship. An excellent read!
