My son and I went for an outing and took in Pekar Park, the little landscaped area named for comic book writer Harvey Pekar. He lived down the street from this area in Cleveland Heights, and you used to see boxes of books that had been set aside for him and wife Joyce Babner in the basement of the local bookshop, Mac's Backs.

American Splendor is one of my favorite movies, mostly because Harvey Pekar is like no one you've ever met! these two collections of his comic book series are stories of his life as a comic book writer and VA hospital file clerk. he and his comics are grumpy, funny and poignant. they're drawn by different comic artists, including Robert Crumb. they (and the movie) are highly recommended!
