I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

A story of love, rebellion, loyalty and uncertainty–and with it, the greater revelation that is India‘s Second World War. Farthest Field narrates India‘s war, in which the largest volunteer army in history fought for the British Empire, even as its countrymen fought to be free of it. It carries us from Madras to Peshawar, Egypt to Burma – unfolding the saga of a young family amazed by their swiftly changing world, and swept up in its violence.

I love the way this is written. The poetic quality of prose is mesmerizing. The eastern front and its effects is so very rarely covered.
