Apartment 16
Apartment 16 | Adam Nevill
Some doors are better left closed . . . In Barrington House, an upmarket block in London, there is an empty apartment. No one goes in, no one comes out. And it has been that way for fifty years. Until the night watchman hears a disturbance after midnight and investigates. What he experiences is enough to change his life forever. A young American woman, Apryl, arrives at Barrington House. She's been left an apartment by her mysterious Great Aunt Lillian who died in strange circumstances. Rumours claim Lillian was mad. But her diary suggests she was implicated in a horrific and inexplicable event decades ago. Determined to learn something of this eccentric woman, Apryl begins to unravel the hidden story of Barrington House. She discovers that a transforming, evil force still inhabits the building. And the doorway to Apartment 16 is a gateway to something altogether more terrifying . . .Apartment 16 is another gripping novel full of suspense and horror from Adam Nevill, twice winner of the August Derleth award.

I wanted to like this one! I like the concept and the execution. The tension is phenomenal. I completely understand why everyone recommends it. I just don‘t know why it felt like a slog to me.

I loved everything about this book especially the incredibly creepy writing. Unfortunately the ending was a disappointment 😔

Not as frightful as The Ritual, but still a solid spooky read.
It‘s like if The Shining were set in London.

Trying some spooky October reading. First book of his I've tried. Had it for years, but never got around to it. Reading in broad daylight, just in case. Also going to see the film of his book, The Ritual, this evening. So it's an Adam Nevill kind of day I guess. #dogsoflitsy

Caroline2 I enjoyed the book of The Ritual! A good ole fashioned horror story! 👍🏻 love the bookmark by the way! 😍 7y
WarpedSweetness I like your bookmark!! 7y

I think it could have been better. The concept is interesting and the fear factor is there but I just found myself mired down in the sub plot lines too often. There were a few extraneous scenes that just weren't all that necessary.

For #riotgrams day six #numbertitles: one of my favorites with a number in the title. It's incredibly creepy and atmospheric. Definitely a freezer worthy horror!

All Hallow's Read is my favorite book-based holiday! I can hardly wait to share scary books with my friends and family each year. The first offering landed on its recipient's doorstep today. Happy haunting! #GiveaScaryBook 😱🍂🔪👻💀👹👽🤖🙀🎃

I got through the prologue and part of the first chapter and I was already skimming through all the tedious exposition and cringing at the horrible dialogue. So glad you can return Kindle books!

Apryl's great aunt has passed away, leaving everything to Apryl and her mother. The inheritance includes an apartment in London, one her great aunt barely left for fifty years. And then Apryl learns why.

I'm glad I read this one during the day, with my four legged reading buddies by my side!

Ubergeekygirl I just posted a kitty & book pic recently. That kitty is so pretty! 9y
BeckyLeJ Thanks! She's one of a pair - they were both hanging out while I read but she was posing :) 9y
