After reading some of Rossons‘s current work, I found that The Mercy of the Tide was atmospheric, impactful, and beautifully haunting. Imagine how sorrow and loss becomes a vortex of grief. And yet, the sudden tragedy is just a warning for a larger catastrophe. There is a string of connection with characters, though all are individuals. A short, but terrific, read.

I did enjoy it. Loved the character development but felt it lacked focus on the mystery being delivered. This kept the energy pretty even. It does have a kind of Stranger Things vibe that I found really fun, but over all because of the mystery reveal being kind of lack luster I will say so so. When I started this book I couldn‘t put it down but by the end I was having to pull myself through it. Worth a read though.

rockpools I like the sound of this one! Have you read it? 8y
JacintaMCarter @RachelO I downloaded it from NetGalley, but then forgot about it and had read only a few chapters before it expired. What I read was good, though, so I put in an ILL request for it at the library. 8y

I stayed up late to finish this baby. I am a fan of weird stories, which the author admits this is, and this fits the bill. I liked the character development in the novel especially for the kids but was a little impatient for the story to unfold. Looks like the author also does illustrations so I hope he includes some in his next book.

It's a windy, snowy day - perfect for staying in, keeping warm, and reading! I'm getting a late start to the #24in48, slept in then made waffles for the family. Trying to concentrate on the story while my husband snores in the recliner.

This is a beautifully constructed novel. A book about love, grief, growing up, being a parent and the lies we tell ourselves to get through the day. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book

This book is moody and weird and gorgeous, and I loved everything about it, from its cast of broken characters (I wanted to take Hayslip home and give him a shower and a hot meal) to the slow burn of its plot, the way you can feel something ominous lurking, getting closer and more horrifying with every page. Imagine if Twin Peaks & Stranger Things gave birth to beautifully written literary fiction. It sounds weird, and it is, but it‘s so, so good.

I'm so excited to start digging into this ARC! I mean, listen: "A sleepy coastal town, where crime usually consists of underage drinking down at a Wolf Point bonfire. But then strange things start happening—a human skeleton is unearthed in a local park and mutilated animals begin appearing, seemingly sacrificed, on the town‘s beaches." (!!!)
