Gumnut Babies
Gumnut Babies | May Gibbs
3 posts | 1 read
Beautiful new Centenary edition to celebrate the publication of May Gibbs's first book, GUMNUT BABIES, in 1916. May Gibbs's marvellous creation - the Gumnut world, with its tiny heroes and heroines and deliciously villainous villains - has fascinated generations of children since its first publication in 1916. Gumnuts at the races, at the ballet, and dancing at balls are some of May's exquisitely illustrated scenes that have delighted us all. This beautiful new edition has been produced to mark the Centenary of GUMNUT BABIES and contains the stories of Gum-Blossom Babies, Flannel Flowers and Other Bush Babies, Boronia Babies, Wattle Babies, plus Nuttybub and Nittersing and Chucklebud and Wunkydoo. The perfect companion for THE COMPLETE ADVENTURES OF SNUGGLEPOT AND CUDDLEPIE. Ages 8+

Kids books were $1 at the op shop yesterday & given that I collect anything gumnut related, I had to have this. This hand painted tea cup was only $2. I collect tea cups too! God help me. I went to the mall to see Downton Abbey yesterday & today I saw Mothering Sunday. Loved both movies but I haven‘t seen a movie as good as Mothering Sun for yonks. Exquisitely filmed. Reminded me of Atonement. Lots of penis too which is nice to see for a change.

CarolynM Well, I have to go and see that one soon😉 2y
LapReader @CarolynM be sure to tell me what you think. 2y

EnidBiteEm @Marchpane @Trav Don't they have such adorable names? 😍 8y
EnidBiteEm @LeahBergen Are you an Aussie? I'm not sure they made it very far afield. When The Gumnut Babies was first published, there weren't really any Australian publishing houses, and what books were sold were decided upon by British booksellers (who often saw us as a convict backwater). 8y
Trav I love them! I am an Aussie though so I absolutely adore them. 8y
LeahBergen I'm Canadian but haven't come across them here (and I would have loved them, I'm sure!) 8y
EnidBiteEm @Trav lucky us for knowing May Gibbs. @LeahBergen hooray for the net! 8y
EnidBiteEm Oh yeah ... and @Litsy 😂 8y
