My favorite coworker at the library, who has also worked as a nature educator, created a haiku challenge for #NationalPoetryMonth. She‘s provided photo inspiration (complete with ID). I chose the pictured and tried my hand:
Delicate flower
I am not. Instead, call me
a sensitive fern.

pickThis is a cute book of haiku‘s. Each animal writes a haiku for another. It is a very cute way to teach the poem.
Frigid and biting
Couch bound on a Saturday
Dog snuggles are best

pickI shared this today at my early literacy storytime presentation. Poetry and a guess who game, how fun is this book?!
When I read it in storytime I reminded parents that children's brains are learning to make connections, and we should give kids at least 7 seconds before we jump in with an answer.
