I loved slowly getting through this book. While reading, I was both living the story and simultaneously trying to put it together in my head, flipping back to previous pages to look for certain details or excerpts. Again, I loved the world it created in my mind and, though confusing at times, I enjoyed and appreciated the numerous stories in it and how they ended.. or began. mar2023

Little weirds, indeed. Funny, heartbreaking, hopeful, inspiring, real. It made me feel less weird. Or rather, made me feel ok and less alone in my weirdness.. and sadness, frustrations, yearnings, and triumphs (no matter how small). It reminded me to be earnest and honest, that it‘s ok and to let myself feel, to celebrate myself, and that all of these strange things aren‘t bad things. While sorting through/erasing old phone pictures, stumbled upon this one from an old read... Gotta love how life sends you reminders of the things you need at just the right times or when you didn‘t think you need it at all.

Yet another book that changed my understanding of the world (no, not just South Africa). I found myself completely immersed in Trevor Noah‘s world, relating to and learning from so many things. Most of the time, being confused as to what I was feeling, but in a good way. There‘s shock, awe, admiration, and so many other things. Definitely a favourite. Be prepared to nod in agreement, shake your head in disbelief, and just laugh out loud. nov2018

This book changed the way I viewed the world. Tearing up by chapter 2 and full on crying by the end (fyi, reading through tears and while sobbing is hard to do). It was such a good read that 1. I went out and got Hosseini‘s other books before I even finished this, and 2. I was dreading starting a new book after because I knew this was going to be tough to follow and that everything else could seem bland for a little while. oct2018

I responded to so many things in this book. With heartbreak, anger, laughter, agreeance, etc. I loved all of the different types of connections. Cheryl's instantly deeper connections with "strangers", names on a register, trails, nature. Her connection with herself and her family, even if they weren't physically present. And the connection I seemed to have with her, admiring and at times envying her courage, strength, humility, and growth. Feb2017

A beautiful, yet heartbreaking book. With books like this, an accurate gauge of how much I liked it is how many markings I've got in it. And this one is filled with post its, markings, notes, etc. Definitely one of my favorites that I can go back to over and over again.

What drew me to this book was the setting. I lived in Hawaii and loved it there. So seeing a map of Oahu and having the book take place up in Tantalus and the Pali, places I often found myself hiking and hanging out, definitely piqued my interest. Definitely did not disappoint.
