The Starless Sea | Erin Morgenstern
Pickpick

I loved slowly getting through this book. While reading, I was both living the story and simultaneously trying to put it together in my head, flipping back to previous pages to look for certain details or excerpts. Again, I loved the world it created in my mind and, though confusing at times, I enjoyed and appreciated the numerous stories in it and how they ended.. or began. mar2023

I don‘t think I‘ve ever read a book that hooked me right from the author‘s note alone. Such an intriguing and entertaining read! apr2022

Not exactly an easy read at times, but definitely a good one. It had me feeling that sense of hope and desperation throughout. feb2022

Little Weirds | Jenny Slate

Little weirds, indeed. Funny, heartbreaking, hopeful, inspiring, real. It made me feel less weird. Or rather, made me feel ok and less alone in my weirdness.. and sadness, frustrations, yearnings, and triumphs (no matter how small). It reminded me to be earnest and honest, that it‘s ok and to let myself feel, to celebrate myself, and that all of these strange things aren‘t bad things. I felt a lot of this book‘s energy and its confusion. feb2021

Love this book. Took some time to get through it, but that definitely wasn‘t a bad thing. Taking my time allowed me to really sit, live in, and feel it all. I savored every bit of it. dec2020

Another amazing book. The way you‘re pulled into the world of these women and their hearts, minds, and souls, will break your heart and build it back up even stronger over and over again. aug2020

A laugh-out-loud book with bits of heartbreak and wisdom throughout. Definitely captures that functioning dysfunction of family dynamics that we can all relate to. nov2019

While sorting through/erasing old phone pictures, stumbled upon this one from an old read... Gotta love how life sends you reminders of the things you need at just the right times or when you didn‘t think you need it at all.

Yet another book that changed my understanding of the world (no, not just South Africa). I found myself completely immersed in Trevor Noah‘s world, relating to and learning from so many things. Most of the time, being confused as to what I was feeling, but in a good way. There‘s shock, awe, admiration, and so many other things. Definitely a favourite. Be prepared to nod in agreement, shake your head in disbelief, and just laugh out loud. nov2018

The Kite Runner: Rejacketed | Khaled Hosseini

This book changed the way I viewed the world. Tearing up by chapter 2 and full on crying by the end (fyi, reading through tears and while sobbing is hard to do). It was such a good read that 1. I went out and got Hosseini‘s other books before I even finished this, and 2. I was dreading starting a new book after because I knew this was going to be tough to follow and that everything else could seem bland for a little while. oct2018

Slow start and at times took some effort to get through, but it picked up and definitely had its moments. I loved getting lost in fascinating ideas about books, words, loves, family (whether born into, chosen, or happenstance), worth, etc. Wasn‘t what I was expecting (may have turned out better), but maybe what I needed. =) oct2018

<3 I’ll admit, it didn’t quite hook me in right away, but I’m glad it did. I absolutely love this book. Everything about it. These words created a world in my head that I never could’ve dreamt up on my own and let me actually feel it. And I didn’t want to leave. I found myself trying to reading slower so the experience wouldn’t end. Now to find the real Le Cirque des R\352ves. mar2018

the emotions, family dynamic, triumphs and falls, hope (both lost and found), the technical medical side of it, the love, confusion, anger, and acceptance of it all, despite the holes and mystery that will always be there. what a read. definitely looking for more like this! mid2017

I responded to so many things in this book. With heartbreak, anger, laughter, agreeance, etc. I loved all of the different types of connections. Cheryl's instantly deeper connections with "strangers", names on a register, trails, nature. Her connection with herself and her family, even if they weren't physically present. And the connection I seemed to have with her, admiring and at times envying her courage, strength, humility, and growth. Feb2017

A beautiful, yet heartbreaking book. With books like this, an accurate gauge of how much I liked it is how many markings I've got in it. And this one is filled with post its, markings, notes, etc. Definitely one of my favorites that I can go back to over and over again.

What drew me to this book was the setting. I lived in Hawaii and loved it there. So seeing a map of Oahu and having the book take place up in Tantalus and the Pali, places I often found myself hiking and hanging out, definitely piqued my interest. Definitely did not disappoint. Amazing book! ....... mid2016

Excellent book. This got me into the whole post-apocalyptic world of books. I love when a book isn't so cut and dry and really makes you think. This is definitely one of those books. ....... mid2016
