About to begin lit circles with my junior highers. This is one of the books I have several copies of in my classroom library. I figured I probably ought to actually read it before assigning it to a group ?
So far I'm getting a Chronicles of Narnia vibe from the narrator...
The best part of this book is the dual narrative. An old man, struggling with his life in a nursing home, recalls the optimism and excitement of his youth. This novel really captures the frustration and despair the man feels as he transitions from being independent and important to coddled and dismissed.
