It seems pretty slow so far. Hoping it picks up before it expires on my OverDrive account.

What an ending! I admit there were tears. There was a real possibility of this series being more predictable than it ended up. The author took the story in directions that I didn't expect. An enjoyable read for the start of my summer break!
I was unsure about halfway through and then there were several unexpected twists that smoothed things over in my mind. I'm looking forward to the last book in the series.
About halfway through and I'm not too sure about this love triangle/square thing going on. I'm always a bit meh about storylines that incorporate jealousy and people fighting over potential partners.
I liked it! It was interesting to view events through the two main characters' eyes. It was a bit predictable in places (the romance part especially) but I'm still wanting to see what happens in the next book. I'm often pulled into worldbuilding, so I'm especially itching to learn more about the Republic and how it got that way.
I think what I liked the most was that I truly had no idea what was going to happen next. It's refreshing to read a story that is so unlike anything else I've read. I actually felt proud of the young man Bod grew up into, like I was one of the graveyard ghosts who helped raise him or something 😄
And then, through Scarlett's parents' jobs, this book felt like real-life. #adjunctlife
Even better than I remembered! So glad I decided to re-read this!
"There are accounts which, if we open our hearts to them, will cut us too deeply."
"All we have to believe with is our senses: the tools we use to perceive the world, our sight, our touch, our memory. If they lie to us, then nothing can be trusted."
I just couldn't get into it. The writing style isn't really anything special, but I know the historical details are outstanding. I read the third book in the series a few years ago, and remember enjoying it more than this one.
I read American Gods a few years ago, and all of the excitement over the upcoming tv series prompted a re-read. Here's a quote from his introduction to the anniversary edition.
Oohh, I like the quote choice for the prologue intro.
This book seems so relevant based on the current political atmosphere.
Great combination of magical fiction and detective novel, with a narrator that is fantastically witty. Loving this series so far!
"For a terrifying moment I thought he was going to hug me, but fortunately we both remembered we were English just in time. Still, it was a close call."
This poor book from the university library has seen better days! I almost want to go buy them a new copy!
"The mark was from the glue that once held a folder into which a library card would have fit back in the day when dinosaurs roamed the earth and computers were the size of washing machines."
"At this very moment astronomers are detecting planets around distant stars by measuring how much their orbits wobble and the clever people at CERN are smashing particles together in the hope that Doctor Who will turn up and tell them to stop."
I love this narrator.
Pulled it from my bookshelf thinking I would never read it, then spent the rest of the day reading it. Suspenseful and not too preachy. The relationship seemed rushed, though, and the antagonist's nice act was never believable. Pretty cover though.
The beginning is a little bit of a slog because of statistics and numbers overload, but the book improves steadily and I was fascinated by the analysis. Gregory's sources were pretty fantastic too, so that was a big plus. Provides great background on a conservative part of a liberal state.
