This book was quite fantastic. Early science at its most engaging. This book does not treat the likes of Newton, his contemporaries, and predecessors like 21st century thinkers that happen to be in wigs and tights, but rather explores the dynamic juxtaposition of their genius and their placement in time. A book about mental giants who still thought dry human poop was a good eye medication.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sounds really good! 8y

Because, as a parent of young children, you need to listen to other parents tell stories about parenting so that you don't feel like such a singular disaster. It helps you breathe as you remember that all parents are disasters and your kids will most likely be fine....

LauraBeth What a cutie! 😀 8y

I only picked up this book because it was on sale for a dollar from audible one day. It was 1 of the 5 books I picked up that day in a truly random assortment of sale items and, it was.... Really good. I am finishing up school right now in Forensic Biology/Chemistry and this book actually had some great study suggestions. A Mind for Numbers teaches you how to grapple with difficult material, of any kind, and does it without being dry or dull.

Smrloomis Did you read the piece she wrote about going from #Russian to #engineering? Really interesting! http://m.nautil.us/issue/40/learning/how-i-rewired-my-brain-to-become-fluent-in-... 8y
UnravledFox I did not. I had actually never heard of her before this book, but she tells some of the story in the book so I will totally read that. Thanks for the link❤️ 8y

This book is beautifully written although I feel I did not love it the way many seem to. That said, I did enjoy it a lot, almost as much for the elements I found disappointing as for the the lovely prose, Weird I know. I feel like I was left wanting in the last third of the book... But, In the end, that wanting is very true to life and part of why this book feels real. Life ends abruptly, potential connections are missed, and life goes forward.

AreeshaBilal Your review is spot on. I felt exactly the same way. I felt so disappointed in the end regarding the story, but then I realized that that's life. It can be horribly disappointing at times. 8y

I found this book to be a fun bit of whimsy that kind of feels like listening to a good friend tell a story while sitting around drinking wine or coffee. It is a non taxing, fun, and entertaining book that would be good for anyone needing a break from life.

I actually started reading this a few years back and really liked it at first but stopped about halfway through because it got too romance oriented for my taste. With that said I finally decided to pick it back up and pushed through and I am glad I did. It turns out I really enjoyed it this time.
