Six of Crows | Leigh Bardugo

This book was absolutely incredible. The personalities of each character (particularly Kaz and Jasper) were presented so well. The decisions of each character were in line with their respective personalities, and the powers of the Grisha weren't overpowered. They were used in ways that seemed natural. I loved the premise of these thugs, crime lords and outcasts banding together. Overall fantastic book for young adults, highly recommend.

The first half of this book was captivating- I was invested in the way that Nate's family worked, and his friendship with Merrick. It was so realistic. The book began to get slightly boring in the second half, and then the dial was turned straight back up for the last 4 or 3 chapters. Although this regained my interest, it felt rushed and sudden. Regardless, the book still managed to be a good slice-of-life story with great characters and story.

I was initially interested. Good start to the book. However, I began to dislike the main character Celaena more and more as I read. Celaena is an example of a poor strong female character. She's good at everything and doesn't have much of a personality besides being sarcastic. But, I liked the side characters, and I liked the mystery of the deaths of the competitors. If you can get over Celaena's personality, then I think you'll like the book.

This book was an emotional roller coaster with the right amount of action and calm. I loved the representation of people on the autism spectrum through Avery. I thought Moxie was a strong female character who was willing to help our main character, but still maintained her standards when he messed up. The MC Sam has a great character conflict and he was entertaining to read about. Overall, the book is fantastic and I would highly recommend it.
