Portrayal of a strong gentle woman who survived WWI and more. This book made me wish I had some musical talent.

An interesting well written book. It begins in 1933 with the main character arriving in a small town in Nova Scotia. We know from the beginning that there is something in her past that she doesn't want people to know. The Cathedral in town has a piano that was made by her family business in France before WWI. The story goes back and forth from the time before WWI and during the war to 1933 without any distraction from the story.
This was a disturbing book because the subject matter is disturbing - the treatment of women by their husbands and mental illness. I don't generally like sad books and I don't know if I would recommend this for everyone but I think it was well written. I especially didn't like the part about the dog but does anyone think that was cause of the dream?
Interesting book about relationships. The story is about an older widow and widower who decide to spend their nights together.
Interesting book. A young college student named Joe goes to a nursing home to interview an "old person" for an English assignment. He is introduced to Carl who is a Vietnam vet. Carl has served 30 years for rape and murder of a young girl and has been given a medical parole to the nursing home because he is of dying from cancer. Joe begins to doubt that Carl committed the crime. Joe starts to look for evidence of Carl's innocence.
It was interesting and well written but there were just too many stereotypes for me. The man was super rich and woman was young and poor...
Interesting book about a group of friends who returned to the house they lived in during their college years at Penn for the 4th of July weekend 18 years after graduation. It would also have been the 40th birthday of their housemate who died at age 27. All of the characters were young enough to be my sons and daughters and their lifestyles were different than mine was at that age but it was a good read.
Great book. The writing is excellent. Once I started reading I didn't want to put it down. She describe what life was like in France during WWII so well. Kristin Hannah did such a good job writing this book. I am not a writer so it hard for me to explain how well written this book is. The best way I can explain it is that I was not just reading but seeing it happening. I didn't have to try to picture it. Her words made the story real.
Interesting true stories about children who were sent out West on the Orphan Train. There are photos of children and photos of them as adults with the stories. I highly recommend this book.
"You watch John Wayne and Audie Murphy in the movie house and it probably seems easy killing men. The truth is that when you kill a man it doesn't matter if he's your enemy and if he's trying to kill you. That moment of his death will eat at you for the rest of your life."

Excellent book! Has the feel of To Kill a Mockingbird in the way the story is told.
