I really enjoyed this one. I saw the movie a very long time ago and as such I've forgotten half the story line. But this book was great, sort of mocking the whole idea. But that's why I love Fitzgerald. I'm not going to get into the biological impossibility of it, but even hypothetically, it's a really intriguing piece of work. Read it atleast once. Contemplate your mortality in the pricesa, maybe.

Really well written and nuanced characters. Both sisters are poles apart and yet you would understand their relationship. It's a beautifully written tale of how the fact that you are siblings will usually overpower any shit you put each other through, solely because you've been there for each other through the shit that life put you through. The beginning may be a bit polarising, but read past it even if you don't like how it starts. So worth it.

MemoirsForMe I loved the movie...looks like I must read the book now. 😊 7y
Ohjustbooks @UwannaPublishme oh absolutely! The storyline differs a bit from the movie but I still prefer the book ❤️ 7y

Wedding Night: A Novel | Sophie Kinsella
Mehso-so

Though I do love Sophie Kinsella, this is not one of her best works. The best thing about Kinsella books is how relatable her characters are. I didn't feel like that here at all. And I really doubt that too many people with identify with the major characters here, and hence you may not be as invested as Kinsella books usually make you feel.

I am so surprised that I don't like most of the characters here. And quite disappointed too. The premise would work, and I would probably really like this book if only the leads were more, or at all, likeable.

Still reading this, and I'm torn between disliking Maggie and feeling bad for her. Liking Ella and waiting for her to enter their story. I'm surprised I remember hardly anything even having read it before. Really well nuanced characters = huge plus.

I have written a much longer review on my blog, but in short, this book is a fascinating study into how deep and dark a mind can be. Amy is immensely nuanced and so is Nick. She is only human, though, and in her well thought out plan, she did not account for how sheltered she was. Which definitely affected the outcome, but she still had her way in the end.

bitterbear I thought the story was a little far fetched... 7y
Ohjustbooks @bitterbear that it surely is. I have touched on that point in my longer review on my blog/GR that it straddles the line between reality and whimsy. But then you see these absurd stories in the newspaper and then this seems like it could be possible, if even remotely. 7y

Really good sci fi. And enough explanations to explain the phenomena in the book. Sci fi is wont to have plot holes but this one does a great job of expecting and countering such issues. The writer has created a fabulous universe and community. So much so that I want to be a part of that universe. There is a lot about religion, science, and the intersection there of. It's beautifully handled.

Really enjoyed this. However, it's a one time read in my opinion.
I liked the depth of the peripheral characters more than that of the two main characters, aka Rachel and Nick. Astrid was a dream and I would probably read a spin off novel on her alone.
All said, it provides a fascinating insight into a society that is vastly different from most. The ultra rich do have a fabulous lifestyle after all, and you'd enjoy reading that if nothing else.

Crooked House | Agatha Christie

This book is a psychological mystery.
I prefer Christie stories that include Marple/Poirot, yet loved this. There are many red herrings here,at one point I suspected the culprit and thought, surely Christie wouldn't do that!A little down the storyline I thought maybe that person wasn't the culprit after all. But it was & I was right;Christie has tricked me yet again.
Read it for well fleshed out characters & to see how dark people's minds can get.

Halfway through reading this - I've read it before a few years back but I've totally forgotten the gist. Reading an ePub file on my kindle. Well fleshed out characters, I'm actually curious about figuring out 'what next?'
