I love regency books with a paranormal or fantasy underbelly. As a fan of bad-ass heroines who fight monsters, it was a delight to see Bella doing so in ball gowns. The romance was fantastic, too.
Yay list:
Fun and sexy incarnation of the alien warrior "abducting" a human.
Alien symbiot element was a creative element.
Two-for-one, also contained sexy dragon romance elements.
Eh list:
After introducing the other four women, the book shifted too much focus on them, preluding their books in the series.
Heroine suffered from "everyone wants to rape me" syndrome.
Fantasy elements were fun and I really empathized with the main characters. I also enjoyed the slew of side kicks. Because it's a series a few details weren't quite wrapped up in the end. My biggest disappointment was that this was 15% romance, 10% Austen-esque drama, 75% fantasy. Wanted more love and interactions between Sophy and Aubranel. Also I feel like the possible immortality of Fae and the impacts on the HEA wasn't addressed.
Excited to read more in this ghost-trapping series. World building and paranormal science elements were fun. Looking forward to more character development and maybe some romance.
Something a little different from the typical romance. Characters had lots of layers and the plot was dramatic on a soap operatic level but believable. That said it wasn't a very happy book. Despite the HEA, I wouldn't call it a comedy except in the Shakespearian sense.
Free kindle book. Modern Prince + commoner premise. Twist was that instead of him introducing her to the glamor of a royal lifestyle, it was the other way around. However the end was too fast, obstacles suddenly disappeared, and there was no pay-off scene sexually or matrimonially.
