I selected the book because it is set on the Isle of Skye, which I recently visited. The author certainly portrayed the location accurately.

I also picked the book because it was a thriller/suspense work.

I did not enjoy the book and gave up on it after about 100 pages. I flipped to the end to see what happened. No surprises there.

The author tries to build tension, but succeeds in bogging down the work. Didn't like the characters either.
