We had actual sun this week. Tyee enjoyed time in the yard with me while I sunbathed. Sunny days make me feel more keen to get things done; I started reading Productivity for Creative People to make my days more conducive to a creative life, even as I navigate being an essential worker, a caregiver, & having a long-distance marriage in the midst of a pandemic. Creativity still matters, so I need to prioritize it.

Not pictured: the ebook I'm reading on the Libby app.

This is the pile of books I brought up to my mom's place in January when I thought I'd be visiting my husband every month (and thus able to grab more books as needed).

Now there's a pandemic and I'm quarantined with strange symptoms awaiting the results of my swab.

Thankfully there are ebooks and mom's personal library of over 10,000 books. I'll be okay.

Lindy It sounds like you are back at work since posting this? (edited) 5y
KatjeIsWriting @Lindy yes! My swab came back negative for covid or flu, so I'm back on the roster for work. Conclusion is my allergies are worse in this town and that's what caused the burning sensation in my lungs. 5y
Lindy @OfMonstrousWords Hope medication is enough to control your allergy symptoms, and without impairing your daily activities. Stay strong! 🌻 5y

#auldlangreads a book about something you fear.

I'm terrified of spiders, y'all. The movie of this book made me pee myself. I've gotten better over the years but they're still 8 legs of NOPE for me.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Me too!! 😱😱 5y
Linsy Oh my gosh, me too! I have a hard time flipping through that part of the illustrated one. It's too real!!! 5y

Pickpick

Currently reading this and LOVING it. Ser 25 years after the defeat of Dracula, with the premise that the book by Stoker was actually journals of Van Helsing and never meant to be published. Vampires are real, as are other "creepy crawlies". Love the heroine and the themes of war vs supernatural horror.

Can't wait for tomorrow, which is a day off, so I can dive back in and hopefully finish the book.

KatjeIsWriting Ugh, *set, not ser. Fumble fingers. XD 5y

"After all those Take Back the Night marches, we were taking back the craft."

Love this quote from her chapter on "coming out" as a knitter during a time it was not popular, especially at her liberal feminist university. #knitting

"Scholarship and academia mean nothing if they are not applied."

Wise words. So far enjoying the 8th book in this series; I think it's better than the 7th was. Closer to the feeling of the first books.

"...these people didn't have the shoulders of any giants to stand on -- they were the original shoulders."

This quote about our ancient ancestors gave me chills. #paleoanthropology #archaeology

Lindy Great quote!👍 8y

I'm at the Vancouver Writers Fest right now and about to get into an event with this author about her book. It sounds super interesting and I am excited! Going to see if I can pick up the book this week, too.

#VWF16 #writersfestival

Lindy I loved her talk last night and her book is excellent too. 👍 8y
KatjeIsWriting @Lindy the talk was amazing! I picked up her book at the festival bookstore and can't wait to dive into it. ☺ 8y
Lindy @OfMonstrousWords Did you attend any other events? 8y
KatjeIsWriting @lindy I got to see Tomboy Survival Guide with Ivan Coyote which was also incredible. I didn't get to see any others because I volunteer at the Fest every year and this year I kind of overbooked myself with shifts. Next year I'll see more! 8y
Lindy @OfMonstrousWords I saw Ivan Coyote too, the second performance. Loved it! 8y

This book has been sitting on my shelf for several years and I am finally getting around to reading it.

So far I am enjoying it, though it does define "pagan" too narrowly for my tastes. However for a topic such as this I can see it might be difficult to use a broader definition, so I'm dealing with it. ;)
