I have been in a reading slump for two weeks, but this came in at the library today, and I figured I‘d give it a chance. I read the whole thing in one sitting. Maggie O‘Farrell uses language beautifully and the writing is so evocative. The short chapters also helped propel me along. What a great read.

Picked up Homegoing at the library today, opened it up and found this on the first page. A+++ to the library staff!

I loved this historical fiction that looked at the conflict between assimilation and maintaining a cultural heritage when an immigrant population is treated kindly instead of being marginalized. Fascinating imagining of the last days of a Jewish community in 19th century China.

Can't quite decide where I fall with this book. I found there were too many characters, but they were all distinct and the relationships were nuanced. Read it for my in-person book club, so am looking forward to discussing it.
