Oh gosh. This explains a lot. The history of meth and opioid use by Hitler and the German military.
I worried this might be hard to read - I was so wrong. I couldn‘t put it down. Blending the personal stories with the science kept it riveting. Fascinating. Who doesn‘t know someone affected by autoimmune disease? Read this book!
I love this travel essay! Love the combination of (obscure to me) history and personal interactions and observations.
My second Chernobyl book in a month, both are very much worth reading. This one is more about the widespread health issues from people processing wool and hides of contaminated animals and from people eating their own produce grown in contaminated fields. And the government‘s cover up, of course.
Haunting. Book explains one of the biggest failures of society - the inhumane and criminal treatment of the mentally ill, uneducated, minorities, and adolescents.
Fascinating. How many formerly homeless addicts earn a PhD in neuroscience???
Author made the technical information understandable to the layperson. Most interesting to me may be the parts about how the culture in the USSR cultivated lies and coverups, and how the disaster helped bring about the fall of the Berlin Wall, and eventually the entire Soviet Union.
Challenging read, but very interesting. The Bulgarian culture was unknown to me.
I already knew the story of Theranos, but was still shocked by the story of Elizabeth Holmes. How did this fraud go on for so long??? Fascinating.
Love this book - I‘m itching to book my next trip.
Read after reading Educated. Similar, but different.
New to meditation. Book is easy to read and makes sense.
Everyone needs to read this book. Terrible title - don‘t let it turn you away.
