My sons love this book! Great information!
Awesome book!
In the first few pages I fell in love with the main character, Willowdean Dickson. Will, straight out says her body is fat and claims she doesn‘t have a problem with it. Or does she? The humor she uses to address her body and other aspects of her teenage life had me LOL. Other characters, such as her former beauty queen mother, her pretty and “in love” best friend, a hunky co-worker, and a group of school misfits, round out her life beautifully.
Similar to Funk‘s Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast, this story takes place in a refrigerator. Yes, a refrigerator. Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast are back again, and we are introduced to Inspector Croissant. He is on a mission to find out what is stinking up the place. Will he figure it out and save the day? Funk‘s rhymes and Brendan Kearney‘s illustrations will certainly bring a smile to your face. This is a mystery for the family to enjoy.
The first few pages of The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore are gripping. Two men named Wes Moore grew up in similar neighborhoods in Baltimore. We are immediately told of their current status: One is a successful scholar and the other sits in jail. Reading the beginning of the book as it recounted the early years of both men, I couldn‘t help but think of kids I know and how decisions made at a young age can impact someone‘s entire life.
I love good middle grade books with male protagonists. This will definitely be one I recommend to my students.
Just finished listening to this book- so impressed with all the accents and voices Wilds did. Tessaro did a greAt job writing the characters.
Finished this book this week! Was so excited to read it after meeting the authors at #ncte16 Totally recommend this middle grade book!
