For some reason, I can't find much on this author/professor. I'm really enjoying the scholarship in this book, but the author seems to not be teaching right now or something. I'm posting this for future reference for myself :)

I really, really enjoy Zambra‘s work. I‘ve been reading this collection of short stories over the past couple days while I commute. After finished the previous story, I saw to whom this one was dedicated. I quietly put the book away while I still had 10 minutes left on the train because I knew I wanted to savor this one before bed 🌟
This book was so, so much to hold. I‘m not quite sure what the appropriate words are to describe how I feel. I have seen criticisms of Hurston‘s work in this text as an anthropologist, but I feel that this work exists in a different, errrr, genre? It‘s a glance at a life that carried too much pain. What more needs to be said about that? Hurston gives Kossola a platform, a chance to tell his story. How can we criticize that? 🌟A must read.🌟
Coworker gave me a last minute free ticket to go see Viet Thanh Nguyen at the Schnitz last night. He gave such an important talk. So excited to move up The Sympathizer in my to-read list. Can‘t wait to read it!
Found for $5 at Cameron‘s Books downtown! It was a perfect day to read by the river. I‘ve heard this is THE book to read. Scared I‘m gonna run into freaky racism and transmisogyny, though, so I guess we‘ll see.
Flipped through this guide book of sorts today. Reinvigorated my self-imposed mission to become better acquainted with my new home through words. Also, just might to write a letter to Grand Master Palahniuk....
"Loving Dostoyevsky means loving literature." (P.36) Today I learned that Dostoyevsky was a rabid anti-Semite. Despite this, he has always had a very large, deliberate Jewish readership. Sontag acknowledges this and writes it off as a kind of quirky datum. Ugh.
I purchased this book at #Wordstock a couple weeks ago after having it on my to-read list for what seemed like forever. Really beautiful gems live within. The perfect book to get me out of my slump.
Some wise and witty words before bed. Loving this reading light!!
I went to #Wordstock and all I got was this incredible collection of poetry, important questions to consider from talented writers, meaningful conversations about Privilege with strangers, and random free things. Ugh! 💚 #PDXBookFest
Currently.
Dwelling on the pain in Mexico. Trying to think about anything else as I fall asleep...
I stopped reading for a few weeks after reading ~15 books this summer. Getting back into the swing of things with this book which has been sitting on my shelves for almost 4 years! Cheers to my first Bolaño ?
Finally have time to pick this book up again!
Match made in heaven: DQ pecan cluster blizzard and a good book. Parts of this book remind me of my own teenage years and all the frustrations that came with them. Almost TOO relatable. 😪
Ok, so I've just read the prologue for this text, and I have to just come out and say it: MAJOR ACADEMIC GOALS!!! I found Babb's book while preparing my symposium paper on food tourism narratives in/on Cuba. Geeking out because Babb writes about everything I want to write about (in this paper and beyond...)! 😍
I'm preparing a very special paper proposal-- My last big school project. As I think about the imminent conclusion of my time at college, I am already missing my cozy apartment. Gotta make sure I salvage my bookshelf!
