Excellent book although I had to skim a few of the more violent sections. I would highly recommend. . . tough and emotionally gripping. I ended up rooting for two very flawed characters as they fought their way through racism and homophobia, including within themselves.

Quirky, funny, bizarre. . I laughed out loud at times. I really enjoyed this book and especially loved that I could read it in two days because it rained most of the weekend. I really enjoyed Greta and, unlike some of the reviews I've read, I thought it wrapped up nicely at the end. . . explaining some of the characters (such as Greta's roommate) that I wondered about.

batsy Nice review! I felt the same. 2y

Between so-so and pick. . . . . Wonderful descriptions and setting but I never fully felt the suspense and mystery. I think the characters, especially the narrator, were not developed enough so I didn't end up caring too much about any of them.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's well written and details the author's walk from Washington, D.C. to NYC, beginning in the Spring of 2021. It's more than just a walk though. . he includes historical details in a very readable style, social commentary and introspection. I would love to take a month and just walk. . . .

I loved this book! It's funny and heartwarming, told through the voice of 9-year old, Swiv. Swiv lives with her mother and grandmother and is the main caregiver for her lively and eccentric grandmother. The book comes together beautifully at the end, providing meaning to the title, which I was curious about throughout the book.

I love everything Abigail Thomas has written up until this point. . this book though, I found to be a bit depressing. It seemed as if all she does is sit and look out the window except for when she‘s hobbling around on her cane or peeing her pants. She‘s such a brilliant writer but she makes old age sound not so great. It did get better during the second half.

Quirky and humorous, not what I expected. I enjoyed the chapters based on Allan's journey but found his backstory tiresome after a while. I appreciated the author's sense of humor and writing very much.

Foster | Claire Keegan

Thoroughly enjoyed this short book. I was able to read in one sitting which is always a plus. . . . subtle, simple yet packed with emotion. . . . and it takes place in Ireland!

I sometimes loved this book and sometimes found the style tiresome. I did not care for the segments narrated by “cancer” – and eventually ended up skimming those sections.

On the other hand, I loved Lia‘s family story, her past and the characters of her mother, daughter and husband. As much as I wanted to appreciate the non-traditional prose style, I had a difficult time getting through this book because of it.

I came across this book and picked it up because it's about a Rottweiler, a breed that I have a particular fondness for. It was okay, readable. . . but I never ended up caring too much about the author and his relationship with Lou, (the rottie/shepard mix). I ended up skimming the last pages, just to get through it. . .

Demon Copperhead: A Novel | Barbara Kingsolver

A harrowing journey but I rooted for Damon throughout the entire book. It helped that I've been sick and could dedicate long hours of reading to get through this 500+ page book in a couple of days. The writing is beautiful, filled with tragic situations but I kept hopeful throughout the book. I highly recommend.

A beautifully written book about a fictional town in Ireland in the 1950's. I loved everything about this book except that I had to hurry through the last 1/3 of book to get it back to the library on time. I will be reserving it again to finish it the way it deserves to be read, slowly and patiently.

Suet624 Well now I have to track it down! 2y

The book description is the story of a man who walks from NYC to Arizona after a failed love. The book basically begins after his walk and hardly references any part of the walk. . . It was okay, a quick read with likeable characters but I kept waiting for some big insight or development and it never happened.

A wonderful story written by a such an upbeat, humble and hard-working person. Grohl does not get into details of his personal life much but his love for his daughters and mom are evident throughout. I enjoyed the road trip with him from the start of his career till his rise in popularity. You do not have to be a Nirvana or Foo Fighters fan (I wasn't) to appreciate this book.

I feel like each book is better than the last (mostly) with Louise Penny. Although the actual storyline was somewhat farfetched, I was totally engrossed. I thoroughly enjoy my yearly visit with the characters of Three Pines.

Suet624 Still haven‘t read one of hers. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y

This book tells the story of the author's last months with his aging dog. It was funny, at times, and sad (of course) at the end. It was a quick and quirky read and I enjoyed the characters but it's not a book I would highly recommend. . I also have a thing against characters speaking in ALL CAPS which is why I could never get through “A Prayer for Owen Meany“.

Suet624 Yeah, I gave it a pick but I‘m with you. 2y

The Mountains Wild: A Mystery | Sarah Stewart Taylor

This book has been compared to Tana French mysteries, which caught my attention. The only similarity is that it takes place in Ireland. I found it slow at the start, I ended up skimming through it and was never that interested. I only finished it because I'd already given up on two previous books.

This was included on a site that listed books about new beginnings and fresh starts. I had read, and enjoyed, some of the books posted so I gave this a try, looking for something light. This was just boring and I didn't care at all for the characters. . . I didn't finish.

marleed I had a hard time with this book for one specific reason - it equated her late husband‘s (bad as the marriage was) life insurance policy to the love she felt (or didn‘t) at the point of his death. That really bugs me. Life insurance is not gaged by how much love you have for a spouse. I thought it was irresponsible story telling that could really mess with a reader that was moving through the death of a spouse. 2y

Once I was able to get past my lack of knowledge of the history of Chechnya and stopped myself from googling every piece of information I didn't know, I could relax and thoroughly enjoy this beautifully written book. It's a tragic story with bizarre and horrendous scenes, yet, at times, it's very comical. . . especially some of the dialogue.

Suet624 Yes!! You read it! I‘m glad you liked it. 2y

I expected this book to focus on the survival techniques learned from living in the woods for over two decades. I found it much more fascinating and leaves me thinking about how we define mental illness. Would a rational person choose to live without any human contact for 27 years? Maybe. . . Definitely worth reading!

Suet624 it was sooo good. :) 2y
