Hmmm, still puzzling this one out.
Great audio so far
Stunning from the first sentence. Can't.Stop.Reading.
The free verse format is an excellent way to tell this story for young adults without getting bogged down in decades of details.
Highly recommend. Excellent job of weaving the contemporary and historical voices and plots together.
Trying to make it through one last Printz contender before Monday. So far this one is holding up well.
"George Washington had teeth yanked from the mouths of his enslaved people...transplanted into Washington's dentures" WHAT??
Each book in this series was better than the last. I'll admit to weeping through parts of this one. I feel the message in this book is even more powerful than other boos I've read covering this topic because the illustrations sync so perfectly with the text. This is an essential book for every school library.
Such a fantastic read and an essential book to include when teaching civil rights.
My heart just aches for Amanda and Grant. Halfway through and in love with this book.
Completely engrossed in Henry's life as I read this book but have a million ideas as to where the author is going with this.
Incredible book but a difficult read. A stark look at rape culture that does not shy away from calling it out when it happens. My heart just aches for Alex.
Great ink, graphics were stunning but I struggled with the cohesiveness of the plot. it wasn't there for me.
