The Glass Castle: A Memoir | Jeannette Walls
post image
Mehso-so

The Glass Castle is a memoir about Jeannette Walls, a young girl who has been living in poverty throughout her entire childhood. During the rest of the book, Jeannette explores how her upbringing has impacted her, and shows how it‘s important to never let your rough past define your future. If you‘re a fan of books with themes of perseverance, abuse, alcoholism, and overcoming hardships, then this would be a good book for you.

Ally.Kortt This book is told in first person point of view because it‘s told entirely from Jeannette‘s perspective. She establishes this by giving us insight into her own thoughts as the story goes on and you never get to see what anyone else is thinking. 2y

The Glass Castle is a memoir about the life of Jeannette Walls as she and her siblings struggle through poverty, intentionally living as the outcasts of society because of the ideals of non-conformity put into place by their negligent parents.

Ally.Kortt Throughout the story so far, Jeannette reveals her experiences of all of the hardships her and her family has had to endure throughout her childhood, partaking in constant travelling due to the fact that they never have a place to call home for very long. (Part 2) 2y
Ally.Kortt If you‘re a fan of memoirs, books about dysfunctional families, or the strength of overcoming adversity, then this is a book for you. (Part 3) 2y
Ally.Kortt A theme shown throughout the book is resilience because there are many stories in the book where Jeannette has had to quickly overcome difficult situations, like how the family is constantly on the move from place to place all the time. One example is when they were forced to leave Phoenix and could only take one item with them each. (Part 4) 2y

Pickpick

Because I‘m doing the same book that I did last time, the summary has not changed very much. 5 teens supposedly all have some sort of link to a person‘s death that happened at a party one year ago, and now exactly one year later, a mysterious person has brought them all to a mansion where they will compete in a murder mystery dinner for a scholarship worth 50 000 dollars.

Ally.Kortt However, everything is not what it seems to be, and everyone is going to have to tell the truth about that night if they all want to make it out alive. I‘m now at a point in the book where they have made it to the mansion and things are starting to happen. Everyone believes that the weird things that are happening are just a part of the dinner experience, but are still skeptical and suspicious about what‘s going on behind closed doors so to speak. 3y
Ally.Kortt Again, if you are interested in mystery books that give you a good thrill and keep you guessing, this would be a good book for you. The point of view in the book is first person, however there are 5 main characters and each chapter switches between them, so everyone is given a chance to provide their own thoughts and opinions on their current situation. 3y
Ally.Kortt When the chapter provides a spotlight on a specific character, their pronouns are always ones like “I” or “me” and everyone else is “he”, “she”, or “they”, and that goes for each character in the book when they get to give their point of view. They‘re also only aware of their own thoughts, and not anyone else‘s. 3y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Ally! Thank you for clarifying the POV as it seems like it may have been a 3rd person until you explained how it was a first person. 6/6 3y

I haven‘t gotten very far into the book, but the main plot is that 5 teenagers all went to a party a year ago where someone ended up dying at that party. Then, a year after that event took place, those 5 teens each get an invitation to an isolated mansion where they will all compete at a murder mystery themed dinner for a scholarship worth 50,000 dollars.

Ally.Kortt However, they soon realize that this is all not what it seems, and that someone has brought them there in order to get the truth about what really happened that night, even if it means doing whatever it takes to get that information. So, if they all want to make it out alive, they‘re either going to have to fess up, or let their lies destroy them all. 3y
Ally.Kortt If you like a shorter read and are interested in murder mystery or thriller books, then I think this would be a good book for you. I‘ve only just gotten past the character Introduction chapters, but a theme that I have noticed so far has to do with the effects of guilt on the mind, which is also one similar to Macbeth. 3y
Ally.Kortt The characters keep bringing up what happened during that party, and how they just can‘t move in about what happened no matter how hard they try. All of these characters supposedly have something to do with this person‘s death, so I think that they all feel guilty about what they contributed to that night. 3y
MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Ally! Cute dog! It sounds like a great book! 6/6 3y
