DrSpalding This is considered modern fantasy. While it would be a quality independent read, we saw it work very well as a book club selection. How does the English learner strategy align with independent reading? 4y

This MF, Caldecott Honor picture book is great for RT in the classroom (Script https://aroshiblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/choral-reading-cowsthattype1.pdf ) Students can take turns reading for each character, and reading out the onomatopoeia within the book. Another strategy for this book is CR. Each time the teacher reads “click, clack, moo”, the students can repeat after the teacher, enhancing their fluency.

OliviaBuck EL strategy 14: simplify your speech by making it slower and redundant, fits perfectly with this book and activity. During the choral reading, EL students have the chance to hear the words being spoken slowly and repetitively, allowing them to repeat the words back. UDL 5.3- build fluencies with graduated levels of support for practice and performance also fits with this book because students are given the chance to practice their fluency. 4y

PatriciaS I love this book and the coral reading really helps EL students with pronunciation and fluency too. 4y
