pickBaz, Simon and Penny take a road trip to America, where they encounter big cities, large open spaces, soggy sandwiches, cukture shock, and loads of vampires. This book has the same characters as Carry On, but a completely different setting and plot. The dialogue is brilliant as usual, the action is well-written, there is a mystery and vampire slaying. The relationship trouble was unecessary, but otherwise really fun. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

GingerAntics Interesting. Illinois and Iowa are not known for pig farming. They actually farm corn, wheat, and cows. That must be cow pies they were smelling. 5y
Gezemice @GingerAntics I live in Illinois, there are no pig farms just endless corn and soybeans. She is syaing the difference is that Iowa has pig farms in addition to endless corn fields. But I picked this quote because a large part of the book is about them marveling at the things that are different in America from England. (edited) 5y

eraderneely I was once driving I-70 from Denver to Ohio and just lining the state maps up side to side. I thought I would be in Indianapolis by dinner, then heard someone mention Chicago on the radio and thought “oh crap, I forgot Illinois!” [we didn‘t go through Iowa that trip, but is it really so different?) 5y
LibrarianRyan @Gezemice yep. Most of the hog farms have closed. I don‘t know where your at, I‘m at the capitol, but my Gramps use to run one of those hog farms in Charleston. 5y

Gezemice @LibrarianRyan I am in Urbana - there is cow farm but they don‘t smell too bad. The university has a large animal farm to the south for research that we smell occasionally when the wind blows from the south - thankfully it is rare 5y

LibrarianRyan @Gezemice Oh yeah. I was the Director of the Mattoon Library for 8 years. My parents are from Oakland, and home was always my grandmothers in Learna (Outside Charleston). I'm a military brat and it was the only house that never moved. If you wanted to do any type of real shopping you had to go to Chambana. I have only been in Springfield 2 years. 5y

LibrarianRyan @Gezemice Its still better than some of the smaller places. Springfield has not been hit to hard, unless you go to the mall. And we should. I normally go to the #STLmeetup, but I have been thinking of arranging one at the capitol. 5y
