What do you do when you can‘t seem to focus? #StartASeries and read the first 3 entries back-to-back-to-back, of course. It‘s not insta-love like it was with Helen Grace or Jessica Daniels or Kim Stone, but obviously I still find Kay Hunter compelling.

TrishB Kay is a slow grower but I‘m loving her now. A different kettle of fish to our other queens. 2y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB Definitely. But it‘s always good to have a bad ass lady detective in my back pocket for those pesky Monday through Fridays. 2y
TrishB Exactly! 2y

Clare Mackintosh is such a first rate thriller writer so I was naturally intrigued by her first foray into a detective series. While it wasn‘t anything earth-shattering, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to further installments. And with all due respect to the Welsh, your language is…interesting. #StartASeries

TrishB I enjoyed this enough to get the second too 👍🏻 2y
RebelReader I read all her stuff. Some are better than others, but I always enjoy them. 2y
batsy The reviews are mostly positive for this! I'm keen to check it out 👍🏾 2y

Thank goodness for tv executives, otherwise I might never read any of my books. 😉 Karen Pirie is a rather minor character in this; she doesn‘t even appear until about 45% in. I‘m hoping that is rectified in subsequent installments. McDermid is such a pro though, it was still a good read. And now I have yet another series on the go which is useful for when my brain can‘t handle anything else. #StartASeries

rubyslippersreads I just finished watching this with my $1.99 BritBox trial, so I‘m curious to read the book (although disappointed about the lack of Karen). 2y

A light pick. I love the ‘sole survivor‘ premise but feel like this could have been executed (no pun intended) a little more tightly. I don‘t know if the Woodbury police were being willfully obtuse or they‘ve never heard of Google. The killer was obvious but I‘m hoping the later entries are a bit more polished as I did enjoy the story. #StartASeries

An oldie but goodie. I remember buying this years ago when searching for crime fiction with lesbian protagonists. Lindsay‘s sexuality isn‘t something she wrestles with, she‘s just a gay lady. I found that so refreshing particularly given the fact this was written in 1987 and I was all of 10 years old. 😂 Reads a bit like a cozy mystery. #SeriesRead2021 #StartASeries

Discovered this series is coming to Britbox soon so had to quickly get my read in first. 🤓 Cleeves‘ series are perfect for chilly, fall days because they feel like being enveloped in a big, cozy sweater. Her characterizations are always A+ and she builds suspense and dread without being too graphic or gratuitous. #StartASeries #SeriesRead2021

TheSpineView Well done! 3y
Crazeedi I'm just discovering this author! 3y
MicheleinPhilly @Crazeedi I just love her. And the tv adaptations are top notch too. 3y

AlaMich I should really subscribe to Britbox. I can justify spending the money by remembering that we never go anywhere or do anything. 😂 3y
Crazeedi @AlaMich sounds like us, so I should probably subscribe too, lol 3y
Crazeedi @MicheleinPhilly I've not seen any, but I'll bet they're good 3y
MicheleinPhilly @AlaMich @Crazeedi Britbox and Acorn are our favorite streaming services. We are also homebodies so it‘s a cheap date. ☺️ 3y
CarolynM I really enjoyed this (my first Ann Cleeves, although I love the TV version of Shetland). I hope they cast the adaptation of this as well as they have the others. 3y

I loved this. The mystery was a bit pedestrian but the cast of characters was delightful. I hope to find a group of spunky, snarky retirees to befriend when I reach old age. I am definitely looking forward to the sequel. #StartASeries #SeriesRead2021

squirrelbrain I loved the sequel even more than this one! 😉 3y

Soooo far out of my bloody, gruesome, sadistic mystery comfort zone. I bought a few of these on a whim when I was craving Chinese food. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It was a nice, light palate cleanser during a frantic week. I enjoyed learning about the various members of the community and actually thought that was more central than “who done it?” Will definitely continue.👍🏼 #StartASeries #SeriesRead2021

EvieBee Yay! Michele, I‘ve been collecting these dang books because I have a feeling about them and have yet to read one. Thanks for the push. 🤗♥️ 4y
MicheleinPhilly @EvieBee I keep seeing them on sale and they seem universally beloved. I bought 3 of them but didn‘t order Chinese food. 4y

DGRachel Sometimes it really is nice to read a mystery that doesn‘t involve gore, child abuse, or rape. 4y
LeahBergen I‘ve been curious about these! 4y

I started this yesterday when I couldn‘t find my other Kindle. Mainly because Britbox told me there is a tv series available in a few weeks. I don‘t love the paranormal angle but thankfully it didn‘t play too large of a role. The characters and story definitely allowed me to overlook it for the most part. 👍🏼 #StartASeries #SeriesRead2021

Magpiegem Set in my home town ☺️ xx 4y
MicheleinPhilly @Magpiegem FUN! My wife and I have been talking about doing an all England and Ireland trip because we‘ve both only been to London. I‘ve been to Ireland but she hasn‘t. @Andrew65‘s daily pictures have given us some ideas. ☺️ 4y
RachelAmphlett We watched it when it was on here the other week and we‘re relieved that they stayed quite true to the book, as it‘s one of our favourites! 4y

Andrew65 This is one of my favourite series, and pleased that they got rid of the supernatural angle from the series. 4y
TheSpineView Great job! 👍 4y
TrishB I love these 👍🏻 4y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB You were the one who convinced me to buy the first 10 for 15.99 way back when. ☺️ 4y
TrishB Still a bargain 😁 4y
Magpiegem @MicheleinPhilly yes you should! You could do a tour of book locations (I‘ve definitely done this in some of USA). @Andrew65 photos of Devon are so lovely 😊. I have to admit though that I have never been to Ireland 😬 it‘s on my list!!! 4y
Andrew65 @Magpiegem Thanks 😊 4y
