Harrow the Ninth | Tamsyn Muir
post image

My audio hold came in five weeks early, so I bumped Harrow to the top of the stack and zipped back and forth between the two formats. While I loved Gideon way more the second time through, I loved this one a smidge less. I think it was a concentration issue rather than a quality issue, though—boo sleepless nights—and I DID still love it. THIS SERIES IS SO COOL. Fingers crossed they get Nona through processing good and quick. #somanygideons

xicanti Please note, also, that Casey is a Cavalier and thus an entirely appropriate reading companion. I promise I treat him way better than Muir‘s necromancers treat THEIR cavaliers. 2y

Pickpick

A low pick. It‘s by no means a bad example of the whole “American teenagers navigate romantic entanglements in a high school setting” thing, but it comes up short compared to Callender‘s recent books. They‘ve become a lot better at crafting characters who process their flaws and strengths in nuanced ways. Beside FELIX EVER AFTER, this feels pretty surface level.

It does normalize queerness really well, though, and there‘s a Gideon. #somanygideons

Nutmegnc I feel the same way. Felix was so stellar and this was just okay. 2y
xicanti @Nutmegnc okay is the word for it. I think I‘d have liked it more if I didn‘t know what they CAN do. 2y

I rolled out a substantial number of hand pie crusts while I listened to LORD OF CHAOS. Most of them are now beef & bacon pies, but I did experiment with Montreal smoked meat & mustard in one of them. It was delish.

The reread‘s going well, too, and I‘m glad the narrators have started pronouncing Moghedien‘s name more or less the way I do. I‘ve always called her Mo-gideon (#somanygideons) but they said Mo-gih-deen throughout FoH. #audiocooking

BiblioLitten They look so good! 3y
xicanti @BiblioLitten they were lovely! I‘ve got lots more of them tucked in my freezer, too. 3y
