I cannot recommend this book enough. While there are lots of books about the healing properties of herbs, this one stands out above the rest. Not only is the information within backed up with lists of scientific journals, but the author also gives you reasons why the supplements work, what they shift in the body in order to treat imbalances. The author gives possible side effects, so you can make an educated choice. They also teach you ⬇️

slategreyskies (Cont.) how to read labels to accurately choose the correct supplements, AND they also give you recommended dosages according to studies that have been done. This book is a game changer. I‘m so thankful that my friend lent me her copy of it, as I‘m not sure I‘d have come across it on my own. I purchased a copy for myself, because it is just that good. Highly recommended! 10⭐️!! 1d

Starting my garden for the year. Tomatoes are in pots and I'm getting my seeds ready. Trying propagating the tomato plant, hopefully it works! #gardening #whatsnewwednesday

jessinikkip Nice! I keep meaning to get a cherry tomato plant and try growing my own. Is it hard? 2d
thebacklistbook @jessinikkip tomatoes are the easiest thing to grow. They typically need 6 to 8 hours sunlight full sun to dappled is good. Starting from a mature plant is probably easiest for a first time. Small tomatoes are usually indeterminate though so you will need a tall trellis or cage to support them or do them from a hanging basket. Check the label on the plant. If they are determinate they just need a pot and maybe a stake. 2d
thebacklistbook @jessinikkip personally I recommend getting a fruit and veggies blend for soil. And a shaker of fruit and veggie feed. Helps improve yield. 2d
jessinikkip Thanks! I will give them a try then 👍🏾 1h

Lemon basil is having none of your nonsense, missy!

Lynnsoprano I never heard of this! Of course, growing anything is different here in South Florida, and I haven‘t been able to grow any basil the past few years because a fungus kills it. 2w
Aimeesue @Lynnsoprano Ick, fungus! Florida‘s tough. My mom lives in JAX and she either can‘t get the veggies to grow or they get all eaten up by critters, bugs or slugs. Every year, it seems. 2w
mabell I‘ve heard that about all basil! Not a fan of transplanting 2w

I bought a copy of this book when it came out in 1992-in a bookstore! Without computer assistance!- then purged it at some point among our many military moves. This year‘s herbs springing up made me think of it, so obviously I had to buy another copy. 😄

Tamra Ahhhhhhhhh green! 💚 I‘ve made the same mistake multiple times. 😆 2w

This was #24 in the China Bayles series, but the first one I‘ve read. The author did a good job of filling in pertinent past information, so I never felt lost. I enjoyed the mystery, and the bits-and-pieces way clues were revealed. I will read more of this series. Set in April in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, this was a last-minute substitution for #SeasonalCozies. Hoopla snatched my original choice back after I‘d only read 2 chapters! 🙃

3.5/5⭐ Contains woo-woo like flower essences, but the other plant information is useful. The safety precautions are thorough. The book covers identification, wildcrafting methods, herbal medicine preparation methods, and recipes with very easy instructions. Some of the information, like which constituents are extracted best in which mediums, is stuff I've had trouble finding in other herbalism books. Includes further reading and resources.

3/5⭐ The design of the book pages is cute and pleasant. There are tons of recipes for every part of the body in a variety of applications. I would have liked more information about what the individual ingredients do so that I could make informed substitutions and customizations if I couldn't get a particular component, especially since many of them are not common. There are some warnings but they're not complete.

Just taking 15m of baby dude's nap time to do more herb related reading but not directly school related 🤪 This is actually a surprisingly short (sweetly so for me) book by just one of the many important herbalists today. I'm loving the illustrations.
And just found out vanilla beans take about as long to mature as the human gestational period. Weird.
