This Greek comic follows Zoe, a baker, who decides to take time away from work to vacation with a guy she meets. My comprehension of what happens is a bit vague because some of the language was beyond my grasp, but essentially she ends up regretting her decision. The title refers to a scene where customers dreamily reflect about Zoe‘s absence from the bakery for so long. “The croissants are not the same…” I will reread this when I have more vocab.

Valentine's Day | Lesley Zobian

Another cute comic by Anna Holak. The art in this is so vibrant! It‘s a cute story about a Valentine‘s Day heartbreak getting turned on it‘s head.
P.S.- How do others deal with books/indie publications that are not in the database. My best thought is to tag a related book as I have done here, but I feel like that can get weird with these little zine-like comics and such. Thoughts?

Bookwomble Add it to Library Thing, as that's where Litsy gets it's database from, then in Litsy search results click on the option to flag a book for inclusion. It can still take months for it to come through, so it depends how bothered you are about being able to go back and re-tag old posts. I'm afraid I feel compelled to do that shit! 1y

Wyrd Sisters | Terry Pratchett

I have not read any Pratchett (something I really must correct). However, this comic which was inspired by Inktober prompts is a cute bit of fan art based on Discworld characters. The illustrations here are top notch! I am happy to have my copy signed- Holak‘s art is great and I‘m going to keep my eyes open for other works by her.

These comics explore common reactions that people have to seeing lesbians in public in Greece. They are snarky, and witty, and they depict hypocrisies in Greek culture. Their playful humorous tone has an edge. Smar doesn‘t hesitate to poke at conventional public opinions. I‘m not sure how hard these are to find outside of Greece, but they are worth keeping an eye out for.

Greek Essential Dictionary: All the Words You Need, Every Day (Collins Essential) | Collins Dictionaries

I‘ve returned from chaperoning a study abroad trip to Athens, Greece! While there, I visited the Technopolis City where Comicdom Con 2023 was taking place. The event highlighted art inspired by Italo Calvino but also featured indie creators of LGBTQ+ comics and art. These are some of the cool things I picked up. The convention had a great energy and was one of the highlights of the trip for me!
