This book makes one heck of a convincing case that the “fatal” JFK shot was the result of a secret service accidental discharge in Dealey Plaza. I checked it out because the author was a lifelong ballistics expert who spent much of his life trying to prove the Warren Commission right…only to finally determine that the evidence pointed to a horrible accident (amidst Oswald‘s attack) that was hushed up to avoid loss of institutional confidence.

This is a history of conspiracy theories centered on the United States, from the founding to the war on terror. It is highly disturbing, interesting and amusing, entertaining even, to see the lengths and mental acrobatics humans will go to in order to make sense of their world in a way which plays to their pre-established fears. While it‘s focused on the US, that‘s not to say that US culture produces more conspiracy theories than any other.

Interesting book that interviews and spends time with several different types of conspiracy theorists. The book has been around over 20 years—this is a slightly updated edition. Interesting to see how things have changed and also stayed the same. Ronson finds some humorous and interesting people to listen to and he looks into their claims as best he can. I enjoyed it.

Audiobook for January. Not sure what to think, but it was much more on the conspiracy than I wanted, but it was interesting learning about the three secretive nondisclosure global groups of power players and discussions of historical development and international policy. Some quasi-espionage investigative journalism stories included. It was both super detailed with lists of members and big picture, without really providing needed clarity.

The story of the days leading up to & after the crash which claimed the lives of Princess Diana, Dodi Fayed, & their driver Henri Paul from the only survivor, bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones. Although it's not exactly his story in his words as it is told in third person & the reader hears from others such as Trevor's mother & step-father, & his French lawyer.

OutsmartYourShelf The narrative being set in the third person means that the reader feels quite removed from what is happening. Trevor remains quite a remote figure in the book - I felt as if I got to know more about his mother than him. The reader gets the feeling that he really didn't want to write the book & wanted to move on, but perhaps felt under pressure to & that is understandable. 3.5🌟 as I did learn some things about the incident I wasn't aware of before 12mo

Conspiracy theories are nothing new and especially not new when it comes to the US government. Dickey traces their development from the founding of the United States up to the present day. Tinfoil hat optional.

“We believe, in the defiance of all available evidence, that the arc of history bends not only towards justice, but wisdom and clarity. … American history suggests the exact opposite.”

While the author did a ton of research and really dug deep her primary focus was on the deplorable people who call themselves TRUTHERS ( conspiracy theorists) but they are nothing more than troubled, sick individuals who are allowed to spew nonsense - The events at SH were so heinous and then for people to claim SH was a sham is just beyond cruel. My heart broke for the victims families but this book was not the tribute I was expecting. 👇🏽

Cinfhen It was wayyyy too long and the author went on too many side tangents about other hoaxers, conspiracies and debunkers. 14mo
