This was fantastic! It‘s short but the series isn‘t!

The 1st person dialog is great! There‘s mystery, intrigue. There are 9 princes of Amber, the 1 true world. This is the story of 1 who woke up on Shadow Earth w/out his memories & must go to Amber to contend with his 8 brothers.

Great MC! Unique world built from the bottom up with detailed expansion! Quick read! I can see why these 10 stories are packaged as an omnibus. CLIFFHANGER!

4.25 stars

at some point when I asked for the next Amber book this last weekend, partner gave up and just gave me all ten. (I won't be rereading the Merlin cycle though)

Fifth and last book of the first cycle. Since Merlin's story isn't nearly as good, this will be the last reread I do today, I need to fold some laundry and perhaps lay a jigsaw puzzle.

reading Amber books for fun and no profit. This one is in pretty rough shape, but it's not its fault, it's older than I am.

Stuck on the couch for health reasons unrelated to my right ankle, so I decided that rereads counts this year and I may as well read the first five Amber books since I'm not in the mood for Hamnet (besides, it's too heavy to read on my back.)

so guess who got pulled back into the Amber Cycle? hint: it wasn't Nelly, though she looks like it.

Bored, listing nine favourites, part 6: Technically the entire Amber Cycle but here's the first one: Nine Princes In Amber. A man wakes up in a hospital bed with no memory of who he is or how he got there, other than that he's been overdrugged for a while. Then it gets weirder; the Amber books are secondary world fantasy about the dynastic struggle over the true world, the one of the which every other world, including our own, is just a shadow.⬇️

annamatopoetry Was NOT a success in book club, everyone else disliked it. But it comes off as stereotypical because it's OLD, it was published in 1970, and was successful enough to be copied. And I love Corwin and his fucked up family so much. I may have to reread this now that I dragged it out of the bookshelf. 3y

“I like libraries. It makes me feel comfortable and secure to have walls of words, beautiful and wise, all around me. I always feel better when I can see that there is something to hold back the shadows.”

Remembering Roger Zelazny on his birthday.

I think as the conclusion of the first overarching arc in the series this was satisfying. There was enough of an openness in the ending to let you think about ways they could spin off but at the same time the major questions were answered.

#BookReport
I only managed to finish Sign of the Unicorn and The Hand of Oberon this week because I got bogged down in Unicorn and was too stubborn to put it aside for something else which delayed all my plans.

#WeeklyForecast
My goal for this upcoming week is to finish the Corwin Cycle with Courts of Chaos and make way more progress in #TheWheelOfTime. Hopefully I'll pass 50%. I'm also starting 10KDoors for the SFFBC on Goodreads.
