Follow up to Pablo Escobar: Beyond Narcos. Very interesting read so far, although a little repetitive in places, expanding on the theories about the involvement of Bill Clinton in the drugs and weapon trafficking. #AtY #booksetinSouthAmerica

"Over food, George HW Bush boasted that he operated on the Big Lie principle, whereby big lies would be believed because the public couldn‘t conceive that their leader was capable of bending the truth that far, such as a president railing against drugs while overseeing drug trafficking worth billions."
Finished this today. Truly horrifying how complicit the American government was in drug and weapons trafficking. #AtY #booksetinSouthAmerica

My only #booksetinsouthamerica , for some reason books set in this part of the world don't make it onto my shelfs. Which is weird because I loved this book, magical and very intricate, I will probably have to re-read it several times before I understand all of it. So this #booktober challenge opened my eyes to my lack of books set in South America.

BarbaraTheBibliophage What a beautiful cover! 8y
I-read-and-eat @BarbaraTheBibliophage it was 50% of my reason for buying it. No regrets 😉 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I would do the same. My copy isn't nearly as beautiful! 8y

When I first picked up One Hundred Years of Solitude as a teenager, I hated it. I found it confusing and melodramatic. When it showed up on a syllabus years later for a class on religion and fantasy, I realized that my opinion had changed-- I can't think of a novel with a stronger sense of place. It's now one of my favorite books, which is why I always have a copy on hand to give away! #booktober #booksetinsouthamerica
